Veteran’s Day

My regards to Andrea Christensen Brett who wrote the real and official “I am a Veteran” poem. The words below do not hold a candle to that.

But this popped into my head this Veteran’ Day and I jotted it down.

I am a veteran.
I’ve done amazing things.
I’ve seen beautiful places.
I’ve lived in miserable places.
I’ve spent major holidays in a tent.
I’ve missed a lot of time with my family, but it’s made the time I have with them all the more precious.
I’ve seen the best and worst of mankind.
I’m proud of a lot of the things I’ve done.
I’m proud of people I’ve served with, they are all my family.
I have experiences I’ll always cherish, and others I wish I could forget.
I’m a mess of scars and medals.
I am a veteran.
